statement |
The act of making art is a way of connecting and inserting myself into the natural world around me by exploring its forms, lines, and colors to garner an understanding and sense of wonder. Art is the outlet through which I choose to understand the intricacies of the universe. It is my goal as an artist (and as a person) to better understand and appreciate these intricacies. Art isn’t the only way to explore the universe. Scientist use their sub-disciplines; historians use the past; writers use words. I choose art because it allows me to explore my world at my own pace and as introspectively as I wish. Art allows me to think about, manipulate, and explore the world around me. I am, in a way, creating my own world through an imitation of the one that surrounds me. Creating art is how my brain processes the visual imagery around me. My goals are aimed more towards my own understanding and my own exploration of this world that surrounds me. The process of making my artwork starts with finding something that I find intriguing and then I dive down deeper into the subject or reconstruct it in a way I find interesting. Those two motives can lead me to use a wide variety utensils, but lately I have been using mediums such as pen and ink or digital computer programs like Photoshop. Using a variety of mediums allows me the range to explore the universe’s intricacies in whatever way best fits and is the most satisfying for me.
